We’re now into the last 100 days of this election. 95 days left. I’m spending the week at a convention of a lot of Democratic-leaning folks, and I’m hearing a lot of people saying, “it really looks good for Democrats this year.” I hear that everywhere. People are optimistic about our chances.

That makes me very nervous.

Sure, we have a good foundation for victory — but we still have to build the house that will bring people to vote on top of that foundation. 2006 is like a sponge – we can either be happy with the drops that come off of the sponge, or we can work to squeeze victories out of that sponge.

Enough metophors. Put simply, every Democrat who cares about winning in November has to do something — every day — to help Democrats win. The DNC has a great new website with a new idea each day of something you can do to help. If you get a chance, take a look at the site at:

For instance, today’s idea (day 96) is to join up with your local Democratic group. In Colorado, that means helping out with your county party (or, in some of the Metro counties, your house district party). Previous actions that have been suggested is to sign up to volunteer with your state party, registering somebody to vote, engaging your friends, and calling your senators about the cynical GOP attempts to tie the minimum wage hike with the estate tax repeal. For each day’s actions, there are ways you can help accomplish that function online, along with several other key election resources.

So get out there and do everything you can to help Democrats yank this landslide into reality!
