I spent this morning with Senator Lois Tochtrop, knocking on doors in Northglenn in Adams County. It was a great, crisp morning for walking, and the Senator and I were joined by State Party Treasurer Mark Ferrandino.

I knew it was going to be a good neighborhood when the second door we came to was that of Mannie Rodriguez, one of Colorado’s DNC Members. Mannie wasn’t there, but Senator Tochtrop left a personal note on his door. Together, the three of us were able to complete walking nearly an entire precinct — chatting with voters and encouraging them to vote to continue Senator Tochtrop’s leadership in the Legislature.

As a veteran in the Legislature, Senator Tochtrop has a record of fighting for her Adams County constituency. She’s worked hard on health care issues and working to lower the costs of insurance. She’s also fighting for better educational opportunities for our youth, particularly for “at-risk” youth.

Mark and I teamed up to walk many of the streets together. Mark is one of the unsung heroes of this Party — he’s not flashy, and his job isn’t out in front. Yet, being State Party Treasurer is one of the hardest jobs around — working with staff to ensure both state and federal campaign finance reporting and compliance is incredibly taxing. Even with all of that, Mark continues to show up and help at every level — indeed, he spent this afternoon walking with Ed Casso in his State House run after I left the Metro area to go home (and see my family for a change).

Senator Tochtrop has a lot of support and help in walking precincts. If you’d like to join the team, check out her website at:

Tomorrow, I trek up to Fort Collins to help walk with Randy Fischer, who is running for the open seat being vacated by Congressional candidate Angie Paccione. I think there’s a fundraiser for Fischer right after — I’ll write about that tomorrow night or Monday morning.

I’ll have a couple of pictures of the Tochtrop walk up in the next couple of minutes at: www.demnotes.com/photos
